At VetHelpDirect we give you complete control over what you charge for your video consultations. Many people are charging a full fee, but with nothing to pay if the animal then needs a clinical examination at the surgery. Others are charging half price, with the cost of the video consult knocked off any ongoing costs if further intervention is needed. Others are charging on a half-now, half-later basis. It's entirely up to you.
However, we would encourage you to charge for your professional time and opinion as you would do normally. All too often having 'a quick chat with Mrs Smith about Fluffy's meds' turns into half an hour of professional advice, and traditionally we've not charged for this time. It's now very hard to start. Video consulting is new. And as it's halfway between a phone call and a visit, it's up to you how you charge for it, but we see it as a way to start charging appropriately for your time.
Some people are considering not charging whilst Covid-19 restrictions are in place. This is fine, but you should consider whether it will later be possible to charge for video consultations, or whether your clients will object. We recommend starting as you mean to go on.
