Yes! This would be a great way to discuss cases with referral clinicians, especially in light of COVID and the problems with travel it is causing. General practitioners may be dealing with diseases and conditions they have no experience of and would usually refer. They may even have the animal in the hospital and need urgent advice for investigation or treatment. Complex medicine cases, imaging results and chemo protocols can also all be fed back to the general practitioner using this platform. This is also a useful platform for general practitioner vets to seek advice about nutrition. A specialist imager could even guide a general practitioner through an ultrasound to get the necessary picture for diagnosis. The possibilities are endless!
At the moment this would require the general practice vet to register as a pet owner, and register a pet (perhaps called 'Referral Advice' with the referral practice. Billing could be done through the platform or the referral practice could set a £0 fee, and bill separately by invoice.
We would encourage our referral colleagues to bill appropriately for their time, especially where, due to COVID, they are unlikely to see a referral from the advice.
